Travesty. Dog shot twice by a SWAT team

Dog Killed by SWAT

An argument over dog waste results in threats between neighbors so police were called.  Then SWAT was called when one of the parties barricaded himself in his house.

His little dog runs outside with wagging tail and the SWAT team shoots & kills Angel the dog.  They shoot with those massive rifles, twice.

Police say it was an unnecessary distraction? Murdering "unnecessary distractions" is justified? 

I SAY THEY KILLED A DOG! 

Two issues here:

1. HUMANS MUST PROTECT ANIMALS. This is a case of firstly people do not recognize the value of life, especially animals. The number of animals, and “pets” killed through neglect, abandonment, cruel intentions and police is massive.  Maybe people can’t grasp 2.7 million, of course it could be because we lack humanity.  So what if they saw 20 dogs or cats in one room, had to watch “being put down” – which is murder.  Would they change their mind?

This dog should not have been shot.   If a toddler came out of the door smiling, would they have murdered the child?  What if the toddler came outside screaming, crying and growling because she was terrified. Child, dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit, rat, sparrow - they should not be shot and killed.  Which brings me to point two.

2. Police cannot use the excuse of fear for their life or distraction as a reason to kill. Do not get me wrong, I know that there are many men and women police officers that work hard, put their life on the line and protect & serve.

But governments & police departments must screen all applicants. Or do a better job screening.  And they need improved ongoing training.  Incidents like this would not happen if the right people with the best training were involved. Read an article by Frank Serpico in Politico Magazine to learn more about helping law enforcement.

And America must stop portraying the any means necessary law enforcement movies & TV.  Any means is not necessary.  The right, humane and lawful means are necessary.

What is also appalling, that news articles say “Watch SWAT Shoot a Dog”.  Like wow, this is cool.  It is not cool.  Informational and a tool to help bring change, maybe.  But don’t display as entertainment.

I am saddened, disgusted, appalled and angry.  BE THE CHANGE!

I am a vegetarian.  This is how I should have lived my entire life but I was blind. About a decade ago I finally stopped and asked myself where the supplies of food in the grocery store came from.  I immediately stopped eating other living beings.

Happy Holidays From My Family to You!

Happy Holidays my friends! I hope Christmas brings you together with friends and family.

If the joy of sharing with loved ones isn't an option, do not fret, stress or get depressed. I have spent Christmas alone with my wonderful dogs for about 20 years. I have my own traditions. I love watching A Christmas Story over and over. On good years the doggies get toys to open, in lean years they still get and give love.  And I usually wash old toys and present them as new.

Your Action and Voice Say NO to Fur! Please Be the Change.

This is disturbing and horrific on so many levels.

If you own fur garments I challenge you to watch these videos and understand the torture and lives taken.

Decades ago people through blood or red paint on those wearing fur. I don't condone assault but why humans still condone and allow torture, maiming, mutilating, abuse and murder?

Be warned everyone of these videos is graphic and I warn you about the content. But please do not turn your head and by ignoring the horror allow it to continue. Please don't turn your head. You can be the change.

Another Evie Update with Positive News

Evie is doing better! She is having laser therapy, hydro therapy and massages as well - loving touch is critical to all creatures. This video shows Evie eating and eating.

Evie Update

Poor Evie was sealed in a plastic container and thrown in the trash.

I posted about her plight and request for donations Here.

NBCDFW also released a story on the efforts to help Evie.

Evie's plight is heartbreaking. I encourage everyone to contact Fort Worth officials to treat this as an animal abuse case and see the repugnant and despicable person that did this heinous act be found and prosecuted.

And everyone in Texas should contact your state representatives to increase the penalty for animal abuse.

This is footage of our visit with Evie at the hospital today. Evie was found inside an apartment complex dumpster - stuffed into a sealed plastic tub. Seizing, dehydrated and presenting with a myriad of severe neurological symptoms when she arrived to the Fort Worth shelter on 11.15.13. ("swimming", miotic pupils, non-responsive and with a significant fever of 105). 

Tossed away like garbage ~ left to die an agonizing, terror-filled death. Evie was quickly sent to rescue and rushed to the ER hospital where she remains - in critical condition, receiving supportive care, seizure management and is under 'round the clock observation in ICU.

**UPDATE** Evie's sodium levels have DROPPED again!! YAY!! Right now, she is at 163 - which is the lowest she's been yet! (normal range is around 150) This is a HUGE advancement for Evie! ♥ She obviously is still affected.... there is no telling at this point just how much permanent damage her brain has suffered. It has been confirmed at this point - that Evie has absolutely zero vision due to her traumatic experience. She is very likely - totally and permanently blind. :( She continues to eat well - and is resting more peacefully when she does rest. Doc opted to not move forward with the sedation as we had previously discussed - since she has calmed somewhat and her respiratory is already quite low - so we don't want to add to that and run into problems with her breathing atop everything else she has going on. Evie still cannot stand / walk / sit or hold herself up. She has no balance / coordination due to the brain trauma.... it is too early to tell whether that will improve. Doc says not to be "too optimistic" at this point - but she is showing some SLIGHT signs of alertness - vs. the totally unresponsive state she has been in since her arrival. We will visit later today and will update upon our return. I love my dogs, more than I can express.  When I see shelter and stray animals, I want to help them all.  They Deserve to be cared for and loved. If I see animal in harms way I will stop and help. Everyone one should. My Motto is :

Special needs animals especially are dependent on humans.  I am and have been Guardian to many special needs dogs.  My blog is dedicated to Sophie, a very special dog. I love them even more and their devotion is beyond measure.

What on small thing can you do today and every day to help animals?  It isn't a trick question.  I know I could list and list and list things you can do to make life better for animals.

 

But today and every day one thing you can do is find a charity, foundation, website that focuses on animal rights and care.  The Animal Rescue site routinely has a Shelter Challenge.  Based on votes shelters and rescue groups can be granted money or supplies. You can ask to be sent reminder emails every day for both the shelter challenge and the click to give food.

 

So easy and every click makes a difference.

Dog Rescue Organizations, NMDR - Be the Change. You Make A Difference.

National Mill Dog Rescue - NMDR - Saving dogs from puppy mills.

The inspiration for NMDR is Lily. An Italian Greyhound auctioned off by a puppy mill. On that day over 200 dogs were 'auctioned'.  A volunteer Teresa Strader came to help with the 29 Italian Greyhounds. She rescued Lily and made her part of the family.  For the last year and 1/2 of her life, Lily was loved.

Lily's story is not recent. But her story is compelling, heartbreaking and hopeful. The message is you can make a difference. Donate. Foster. Adopt. Educate. Do something.
